The frequently remote nature of hydro sites, away from suburban areas, in challenging geography and away from reliable connectivity is a challenge that CommSystems are used to meeting. We often work on projects from the very outset; at the construction phase. Here, getting connectivity to a site is considered a priority and then, once complete, that original infrastructure is used to provide operational data and communication paths to remote management teams. The emphasis may change from the construction phase; it will probably be supporting less staff and giving more emphasis on providing lone worker support and other safety features. There’s often potential for partial or complete remote operation of these sites using the same data links.
